Bintan Holds Inaugural Bintan International Marathon

BINTAN – The press conference of the inaugural Bintan International Marathon was held at the Ministry of Tourism in Jakarta, Indonesia on 1 March 2018. Supported by Wonderful Indonesia, BIM 2018 will take place on 15 July 2018 and aims to take sports tourism on Bintan Island to the next level. The event also marks the successful collaboration of three nations – China (Beijing Hualing Sports Culture Media Co. Ltd), Singapore and Indonesia (PT. Bintan Resort Cakrawala, PT. Medianusa Permana), as affirmed in the agreement signing on 25 January 2018 in Bintan Resorts.

With the official tagline as “Run and Discover”, runners of the Bintan International Marathon will be taken through panoramic sceneries of lakes, beaches and other attraction spots within Bintan Resorts. The marathon event is a remarkable testament for participants to enjoy the beauty of Bintan Island, while putting up a physical challenge. The marathon is expected to take place over 8 hours, which will start and finish at Plaza Lagoi in Lagoi Bay – a popular tourist spot at Bintan Resorts. Lagoi Bay is located at the heart of Bintan, designed for visitors to enjoy a one-stop integrated destination experience on their scenic getaway to the tropical island.

The Bintan International Marathon event will feature three race categories – the Full marathon (42.2 KM), Half marathon (21.1 KM), and the 10 KM Charity run. The Full marathon is tailored to the professional or elite tier of runners, while the Half marathon is for both elite and non-elite runners. The Charity run appeals to individuals who wish to make a difference, as funds raised from the run will go into improving the lives of local residents on Bintan Island.
