NEW RIJSTAFFEL STYLE DINNER AT BINTAN LAGOON RESORT’S NELAYAN RESTAURANT
In a throwback to the culinary legacy of the Dutch colonialists, Nelayan, the signature beachfront restaurant at Bintan Lagoon Resort has introduced its own version of Rijstaffel which means ‘Rice Table’ in Dutch.
During colonial times, Rijstaffel refers to a stupendous variety of Indonesian dishes served in an elaborate procession by native maidens to impress guests with a showcase of the rich cuisine of the country. Dishes comprised mains and sides, accompanied by rice, prepared in a variety of cooking styles and recipes in order to produce a medley of flavours and textures. They are usually representative of the various distant regions and provinces of Indonesia and could amount to over 40 dishes for massive gatherings.
At Nelayan, the Rijstaffel dishes are elaborately conveyed on a one-meter long hefty wooden tray supported by a pole balanced on the shoulders of butlers on both ends. Unlike the mindboggling array of dishes served in the old days, Nelayan’s Rijstaffel menu offers a more manageable but no less stately repertoire of delicious dishes in keeping with modern day demands for the health conscious.
A typical Nelayan Rijstaffel menu consist of: Gado-Gado, Sota Ayam, Cumi Nelayan, Udang Bakar, Ikan Panggang, Tongseng Kambing, and Fried Banana with Vanilla Ice Cream.
Price: IDR 480.000++ per person (minimum of two persons required). Menu is subject to change.
Nelayan, which means ‘fisherman’ in Bahasa, offers an unrivalled location with astounding views of the South China Sea. With stars sparkling in the night sky, waves gently lapping and fishing platforms floating serenely in the far horizon, the Rijstaffel experience adds up to a magical, memorable stay for guests.
