Eco Farm Trek

As the song goes “Planting rice is no fun, work from morn ’till set of sun…” But on this tour, it’s fun, fun, fun!

Your tour takes you the little visited areas of Bintan Resorts where we grow the food you eat in your resort. A 20 minutes ride will bring you to the 17 hectare eco-farm nestled amongst rolling hills. Here you will see fruit, vegetables and herbs. Watch farmers as they go about their daily chores tending to the greens. Walk amongst rows upon rows of dragon fruit, pineapple and vegetable patches as ducks ans other ground fowl clear a path ahead of you. You will even get to sample some of the greens and fruits in season or have an opportunity to buy some to take home.

Here also is a sanctuary for local birds being nursed back into the wild. Check out the birdlife before feeding some deer along the way. Toss food into gurgling pools of catfish and other commercial freshwater fish bred here for the market.

A great educational experience especially for the young and city dwellers!

Trail of the Sea Gypsies

Your trail of adventure starts as you leave Bintan Resorts area and venture into Bintan Island’s hinterland. Passing over the rolling hills of central Bintan and rubber and palm oil plantations, fields of pineapples, durian orchards and other agricultural produce, landscape changes dramatically as you approach the eastern coastline and head north towards our first stop- the largest sea gypsy village in Bintan.

At this rustic village by the river, you will discover the way of life of the sea gypsies of Bintan as it has been for hundreds of years. The exploration will then head south to the Grotto Santa Maria. Here, a beautiful portrayal of the Stations of the Cross tells the story which has captured the hearts of millions around the world.

Your tour then takes you further south to see breathtaking views of the coastal life with kelongs (floating fishing platforms) and traditional boat builders ; fishing villages and villages built over the sea. Another highlight of the tour begins as you savour a pizza lunch cooked in a wood-burning pizza oven right by the sea and sip on the favourite drink of the tropics- a fresh coconut.

Gods and Dragons

Dragons in Bintan? Yes there are many!

Your dragon ‘hunt’ takes off as you enter the hinterland of this large tropical island. At Sengarrang Village built over the sea, two of the oldest temples in Bintan greet your arrival. Built to give thanks for the safe sea passage of the early Chinese settlers, the Vihara Dharma Sasana (temple) is a perfect showcase of the co-existence of Gods and Dragons in Chinese mythology. And just a stone’s throw away, another temple has given way to nature as an ancient tree intertwines its trunk around the structure of the Banyan Tree Temple.

Your tour then takes an earthly respite as you wonder the streets of Tanjung Pinang for the best local bargains or souvenirs to bring home…..but only briefly as you head towards another ‘nest’ of dragons and abode of the Gods.

Here, you will see dragons everywhere- right from the moment you enter the vast grounds of the Vihara Avalokitesvara (Kwan Yin Temple) to the top of the temple’s roof! The tallest statue in South East Asia of the Goddess of Mercy sits majestically here.

Gods appeased and dragons counted, you head back to your resort to see the sun dip over the distant horizon.

Island Of The Kings

Escape the modernity of everyday life and journey back into time. A time when Kings and Queens ruled the islands of the Riau Kingdom stretching from what is now part of Indonesian, to Singapore and beyond to southern Malaysia.

Your journey skirts past the tallest mountain on the island- Gunung Bintan with verdant jungles on its slopes. You will soon arrive at a predominantly Chinese coastal village famous for its alleyways that crisscross over the sea . Here your historical journey begins as you board a local sea craft that will take you back in time to Penyengat Island. From here, the adventure continues in a motorized trishaw along ancient streets paved with history. The island and all its attractions are pending listing as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This is the abode of the kings of the last phase of the Malay Kingdom. Here, the ruins of an old palace, the Royal Mosque and mausoleum are all adorn in hues of yellow and green. Here the rusting cannons that defended the locals against the Dutch invaders still caste their glances over the sea and the sounds of a bygone era still echo in the wind.

Back on the main island of Bintan, you will savour some local delicacies over lunch before heading back to the beautiful sandy beaches of your resort.
