Cempedak Island

Cempedak is a unique private island spanning 17 hectare situated 9km off the east coast of Bintan, Indonesia. From Singapore’s Tanah Merah ferry terminal the entire journey time is approximately two and a half hours. The island provides sanctuary to a variety of flora and fauna including hornbills and a family of sea otters.

As with Nikoi Island, the sister island to Cempedak, conservation and consideration of environmental issues have been a priority in its development. Cempedak’s revolutionary design focuses on the theme of sustainability. With a maximum of 40 guests, an adults only policy, no televisions and an environment that allows the preservation of natural habitat and wildlife, a stay on the island promises you the space and time to truly disconnect.

Cempedak boosts a unique and dynamic architecture. The roofs of all villas are hand-constructed using bamboo and ‘alang alang’ grass. The bamboo villas have been ingeniously designed to mimic the impression of being cocooned within a lush tropical paradise, facing the blue sea. With private plunge pools, huge decks and generously spaced villas, guests can enjoy privacy and comfort with nature as a backdrop.

Currently, there are a total of 15 sustainable villas; with 5 more to be completed later this year.

Room Description

Each villa offers over 150 sqm of space and is set over two storeys. It features a spacious deck and private plunge pool that welcomes the outside in. A beautiful spiral staircase leads you to a capacious bedroom with a balcony; the best place to admire the spectacular views. Guests can sink into the organic white cotton sheets of the king sized beds that are draped with mosquito nets. The villas are positioned to maximize the cool ocean breezes, promoting natural ventilation.  In addition, keeping in line with the strong eco-tourism philosophy, the rooms will feature sensor fans.
