In a recent celebration of World Environment Day, Bintan Resorts, in collaboration with various stakeholders, planted 3000 mangrove saplings along the Lagoi coastline on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. This initiative involved Treasure Bay Bintan, Sekolah Tunas Bangsa, Politeknik Bintan Cakrawala, Yayasan Bintan Resorts, Sahid Bintan Tourism Institute, and representatives from all PT Bintan Resort Cakrawala departments.
Treasure Bay Bintan played a significant role by donating 4000 mangrove saplings, with 3000 already planted and 1000 more scheduled for planting on the event day. Bhakti Adi Chandra, Head of Community Development at PT BRC, highlighted the collaborative effort, stating, “With today’s donation of an additional 1000 saplings, we will be planting a total of 3000 mangrove saplings today.” The planting was done in a colony system, where 5-10 saplings were placed in each hole. Bhakti also reported that Bintan Resorts has planted over 25,000 saplings in various areas to date.
In conjunction with this event, Bintan Resorts launched the Brave Warrior environmental volunteer community. Ray Tobing, Head of Health Safety Environment at PT Bintan Resort Cakrawala, explained that Brave Warrior stands for “Bintan Resorts Act of Volunteerism for Environment.” The name symbolizes bravery, resilience, leadership, innovation, personal growth, and empowerment, along with service and dedication.
“Brave Warriors will serve as courageous volunteers, ready to make a difference. They will participate in Bintan Resorts’ environmental activities, act as environmental ambassadors, and serve as agents of change,” Ray elaborated during his speech.
This World Environment Day celebration and the launch of Brave Warrior reinforce Bintan Resorts’ commitment to sustainability. Bintan Resorts has consistently focused on sustainability through various programs managed by the Community Development and Health Safety Environment departments. Their comprehensive sustainability strategy includes the Bintan Resorts Green Initiative, which involves mangrove restoration, beach clean-ups, environmental education and campaigns, community-led mangrove nurseries, and other collaborative environmental activities.
Dina Retta, a Brave Warrior volunteer, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, saying, “As a core team member of Brave Warrior, I am very excited about this initiative. It encourages us to adopt more environmentally friendly habits, starting with small actions in our daily lives, leading to a better environment.”
World Environment Day serves as a powerful reminder that we all play a crucial role in preserving our planet. Each of us can make a difference, starting with small actions that collectively have a significant impact. By participating in initiatives like mangrove restoration programs, we can contribute to the health of our coastal ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and combat climate change. Imagine the positive change if everyone took part in planting even a single mangrove sapling. Bintan Resorts’ efforts exemplify how community involvement can drive meaningful environmental progress. Let’s take inspiration from the Brave Warriors and commit to doing our part, no matter how small, to create a sustainable future for generations to come. Your involvement, no matter how small, is a step towards a greener, healthier planet. Join us in making a difference today.
